Mediterranean Cog, Two masts, Lateen Sails, Portugal, 1370, "Catalana"

The ship's measurements are: Length 86 feet, Beam 26 feet, Depth 13 feet, displacement 164 tons, crew 34. The lateen sails were used throughout the Mediterranean for the best part of 1000 years. The hull design is similar to the Roman "Cordita" and the fore castle is not utilized, perhaps to make the vessel more stable with the lateen rig. Note the lateral rudder.
